Sime Road HQ (9/2/42)

February 9, 1942February 9, 2017

Roads choked with AIF, Motor Transport and troops. Called up for duty at Sime Road & went up at 1500hrs. Lots of AIF & Indian troops swarming into Singapore. A rout! Morale gone.

Pollock and Richardson assigned to the AIF as interpreters.

Evening called on Shebbeare regarding jungle knowledge. He is forming a register of all persons who know parts of Malaya, etc. Met Dick Noone and went back to Dalforce with him. Met Australians (both from Perth) from MT Coy and took them home for dinner.  Pollock and Richardson took them back to their Bren Carrier.

Met Jimmy Hyslop just back from the front in the west. He said that it was absolutely bloody. Very heavy bombardment and heavy casualties. Certainly the continued absence of our Airforce is having a most damaging effect on troops.
