Morib, Selangor

January 10, 1942January 10, 2017

Richardson describes two planes caming over (Banting) about 0900hrs and dropping four bombs up the road from the Independent Company. Another bomb drop on padang near the Company. Then planes machine gunned Pollock and Richardson up and down a ditch. By luck did not hit either, but a near thing. General machine gunning also and we could hear the bullets slapping down on the road only a few feet away. Indian OR received a head wound.

Richardson goes onto describe: Later moved into 3rd line defence position 3 miles up the road. Bombed again. One a 25lb bomb which made the ground shake. One British OR lost his nerve completely, another one was hit by a falling branch.

Stayed in position until 1830hrs then moved to motor transport park. Moved off about 20oohrs. Fearon noted that the Independent Company, in conducting their rearguard duties, left Morib just as the Japanese commenced their landing.
