Sungai Lalang, Kedah

December 15, 1941December 14, 2016

An air raid over PRAI greeted the Company at 08.00hrs and by 14.00hrs the Company was at SUNGAI LALANG watching the retreat of the 11th Division troops.

To the west of the Company’s position rose the great mass of KEDAH PEAK, an area well known to the Company, and ideally situated as a base for guerilla work on the main enemy Line of Command.

Request by the CO of the Independent Company to start guerilla tactics for which it had been trained was refused and it was apparent that, under the present higher command, the value of the Company as a guerilla force would never be appreciated. Therefore, the Company would, henceforth, be used merely as stop-gap troops as circumstances demanded.
